Areawide Aging Agency would like to introduce you to Skyler Roper. He is working on his Eagle Scout project and has come up with a brilliant idea to help home-bound senior citizens. We think his idea to use new technologies to help seniors will help bridge the technological gap some seniors have and also help build relationship between seniors and the younger generation.
“My name is Skyler Roper and I am working on my Eagle Scout project. My project is to put Amazon’s Echo Dot (Alexa) in elderly, disabled people’s homes, so they may live more independently. Some of them rely heavily on the in-home caregivers to perform even the simplest tasks like turning on the lights. If their caregivers cannot make it to their homes for some reasons, some of these people could be stuck in bed, in the dark, alone, an unable to call for help. After installing Alexa into their homes, they would be able to turn on the lights, phone for help, have the news read to them, listen to music and much more.”
I need YOUR help to get this project off the ground! YOU can help support my project in many ways.

Our work involves funding, coordinating and monitoring programs authorized by the Older Americans Act. Services are available to adults age sixty and older. To provide these services, Areawide receives funding through private and foundation grants, corporate donations and donations from individuals, with the majority of the funds coming from state and federal monies. All of our donations go back into providing more services to senior adults. Our service area is Oklahoma, Logan, Cleveland and Canadian Counties. For more information on each of our programs, visit our Funded Programs tab.
