OUR MISSION - As people age, their need for dignity, independence and quality of life does not change. Although characterized by a strong work ethic, unfortunate circumstances force many older adults into a life of bare existence. As a result, assistance is needed in areas in which they can no longer provide for themselves.
Since 1973, Areawide Aging Agency has been the principal developer, coordinator and provider of services which meet the needs and advance the dignity, independence, and quality of life of senior adults in central Oklahoma.
WHAT WE DO - Areawide Aging Agency is dedicated to advancing the dignity and independence of older adults in our community. Areawide assess the needs of seniors, coordinates programs such as congregate and home delivered meals, transportation, and respite care for caregivers. We link seniors to resources through our information and assistance line and we also print a resource directory specifically for seniors in the counties we serve. Areawide Aging Agency also has an Ombudsman program. The Ombudsman serve residents in nursing homes, resident care facilities and assisted living centers in the four counties served by Areawide Aging Agency.
For over 40 years, our efforts involve funding, coordinating and monitoring programs authorized by the Older Americans Act. The counties we serve are Canadian, Cleveland, Logan and Oklahoma. Our target population is older adults sixty years of age and older, plus their caregivers. To provide these services, Areawide depends upon funding through private and foundation grants, with the majority of the funds coming from state and federal monies.
Anyone over the age of 60 is eligible for our services; however, those living below the poverty line are the ones who depend upon it to help make ends meet.
